Weather is the default Mac OS X Dashboard widget that displays current conditions and a short forecast for a chosen location. Bundled with Tiger in 2005, it became one of the most recognizable Dashboard widgets, sitting alongside Calculator, Stickies, and World Clock on the translucent overlay layer.
What it does
Enter a city or ZIP code in the widget's flip-side preferences and the front face shows current temperature, a weather icon, and a six-day outlook. A small toggle switches between Fahrenheit and Celsius. The widget refreshes automatically when Dashboard is invoked.
How it worked
The widget pulled data from an Apple-hosted weather feed. Apple discontinued the underlying API in 2019, so the widget no longer fetches live data on modern systems and is preserved here primarily for archival and historical interest.
System requirements
Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger or later with Dashboard enabled. Universal binary for both PowerPC and Intel Macs. Dashboard was deprecated in macOS Catalina (10.15), so the widget cannot be loaded on newer systems.
Alternatives
Users who want a working equivalent on supported Mac OS X versions are pointed to community-maintained DarkSky and other Dashboard widget mods that replace the dead feed with a current weather provider.
