Centaurian is a 1996 arcade shooter by David Dobson, a clone of Namco's classic Bosconian with a few twists of its own. The player pilots a small ship across open star fields, dodging asteroids and mines while hunting and destroying every enemy space base on each map to advance.
Gameplay
Played from a top-down perspective, Centaurian asks the pilot to sweep large maps for enemy bases, fend off patrolling craft, and weave around hazards. Clearing all bases unlocks the next stage, and difficulty climbs steadily through the run.
Authoring and Engine
The game was built by David Dobson using the Sprite Animation Toolkit, a popular Mac game library of the period that powered many shareware arcade titles.
System Requirements
Centaurian is a 68k Macintosh title compatible with System 7.0 through 7.6 and Mac OS 9, distributed as classic Mac shareware.
Compatibility
The original binary runs on era hardware and is reliably playable today through SheepShaver and Basilisk II emulation.
