Glengarry Glen Ross Sounds for Maelstrom 1.4.1 is a sound modification compiled by Brad Shigenaka and released in September 1996. It replaces Ambrosia Software's stock Maelstrom Sounds file with dialogue clips lifted from the 1992 David Mamet film Glengarry Glen Ross, turning every collision and explosion into a Mamet line.
What it changes
The mod is a drop-in replacement for the Maelstrom Sounds file that ships with Ambrosia's asteroids-style shooter. Game logic, sprites, and music are untouched; only the sample bank is swapped.
How it was made
Per the readme, Shigenaka extracted the audio about a year before release by running cables from a laserdisc player into a PowerBook 165, then edited the captured clips into the slots Maelstrom expects in its sound resource.
Installation
The author advises backing up the original Maelstrom Sounds file and dropping the included replacement into the Maelstrom folder, and warns players to lower their system volume on first launch because the samples are loud and unfiltered.
Distribution
Hosted on Macintosh Garden as the fourteenth Maelstrom download, maelstrom-ggl-snds.hqx, listed at 773.53 KB and compatible with System 6.x through Mac OS 9.
