Super Ships II is a fast-action top-down space combat game by Ben Hencke / Brett Crain, with up to eight ships dueling to be the last one standing. This Info-Mac package is the FPU build of version 1.0.0, optimized for 68k Macs equipped with a floating-point unit. Macintosh Garden lists the title as a 1996 release.
Gameplay
Matches can be played with zero, one, or two human pilots alongside computer opponents. A built-in editor lets players design additional ship classes, assigning them stats and special attacks, so the roster is open-ended.
Poly-Graphics engine
The game uses a custom renderer the author calls "Poly-Graphics". Ships, items, and asteroids are built from multi-layer polygons described by simple planar coordinates rather than stored as bitmaps, which keeps the download tiny while still producing animated vector-style visuals.
Requirements
This FPU build needs a 68020 or better Mac with a hardware floating-point unit, a 13-inch or larger 256-color or grayscale monitor, and 4.3 MB of RAM. A separate non-FPU sibling build is archived alongside it.
