BattleTanks is an artillery-style strategy game by Swedish developer Niklas Frykholm, released in 1995 as part of his shareware package. Up to ten players take turns lobbing shells across destructible terrain, choosing from sixteen different weapons in an effort to blow each other up in classic Scorched Earth fashion.
Gameplay
Players adjust angle and power to fire across the screen at opposing tanks. With ten possible combatants per round and a sizable weapon roster ranging from conventional shells to more exotic ordnance, matches escalate quickly into chaotic, terrain-shaping duels.
Display and Compatibility
The 2.12 release supports both color and black-and-white Macintoshes, and the playfield expands to fill the entire screen. The game targets 68k Macs running System 7.0 through 7.6 with 256-color displays.
Shareware
BattleTanks shipped as part of the Niklas Frykholm Shareware Package, registerable as a bundle for a five-dollar fee covering every title in the collection.
