Tubular Worlds is a 1994 horizontally scrolling shoot-em-up developed by Creative Game Design and published by Dongleware Verlags GmbH for Amiga, Macintosh, and DOS. This is the playable demo, distributed by author Thomas Zeier, that includes one zone of free play to showcase the full game's sixteen major encounters.
Premise
You play a senior cadet at an elite school for fighter pilots whose final exam is to fly the gauntlet of four virtual cyber worlds and destroy the Warlords ruling each one. Each combat segment ends with a powerful Warlord boss who tests reflexes and weapon management.
Gameplay
Tubular Worlds is a fast side-scrolling shooter in the R-Type tradition, with mouse, joystick, and gamepad support on the Mac. Power-ups arrive frequently enough that players can be fully kitted out within minutes, keeping the focus on action rather than attrition.
System Requirements
The Mac build targets System 7.0 through 7.6 and Mac OS 9, and runs cleanly under modern emulators such as SheepShaver and Basilisk II for present-day preservation play.
The Demo Build
This release includes one zone of free play - enough to demonstrate the engine, control feel, and visual style of the commercial release while gating the remaining cyber worlds and Warlord battles behind purchase.
