About

Bob's Bricks is a 2001 Macintosh shareware arcade game by Greg Gillis of Armadillo Games. Despite the title, it is not a Breakout clone: the player guides Bob, an ex-construction worker, beneath a continuous barrage of falling bricks across five levels in a quest to recover his lost memories.

Gameplay

Each level is a single screen on which bricks tumble from above. The player moves Bob left and right to position him under or away from the falling debris, with the goal varying by level (catch, dodge, or gather as the situation demands). Five increasingly busy stages frame the loose memory-recovery narrative.

Engine

The game ships as a Carbonized PowerPC application, runs natively on both Mac OS 9 and the early Mac OS X releases, and requires CarbonLib on OS 9. The single-archive download (Bobs_Bricks_ME.sit, around 2.2 MB) makes it a typical lightweight late-classic-era Mac shareware title.

Development

Bob's Bricks was written by Greg Gillis under the Armadillo Games label and released in 2001, near the tail end of the classic Mac OS shareware scene. It was distributed through Info-Mac and similar Mac shareware archives.
