Slabbers is a fast-paced animated shoot-em-up by Norwegian author Ragnar Brynjulfsson, released in 1997 as freeware for Classic Mac OS. Built to run on essentially any Macintosh of the era, it pairs first-person perspective with arcade reflexes and lo-fi pixel mayhem.
Origins
Brynjulfsson distributed Slabbers via the Info-Mac archive (game/arc/slabbers-10.hqx) at version 1.0, mailing it in from a Norwegian university account. The author's stated goal was a shooter that would run on any Mac, regardless of vintage.
Gameplay
Action takes a first-person view, with reaction-time shooting at slabber-like adversaries. There is no campaign or save system documented; the loop is arcade-style score and survival.
System notes
Listed as compatible with System 6.x through 7.6, and confirmed by Macintosh Garden contributors as working under Mini vMac. Light requirements were a deliberate design choice rather than a limitation.
Reception
The Macintosh Garden listing carries a 4-of-5 community rating across four votes, with multiple gameplay screenshots archived in late 2013.
