Briscola is a traditional Italian trick-taking card game played with the 40-card Italian deck, and this Macintosh shareware port by Fabio Lecca brings it to classic Mac OS with optional QuickTime music. This entry is the demo distribution of version 1.5, the version number bumped to keep parity with the developer's Windows 95 release of the same era.
The card game
Briscola is one of Italy's most widely played card games. A trump suit (the briscola) is revealed at the start of each hand, and players win tricks by playing the highest card of the suit led, with trump cards beating non-trump cards. Scoring is based on point cards rather than trick count alone.
About this release
Version 1.5 introduces many bug fixes and a new statistics dialog. Registered users could request the new version by email free of charge from the author. The author asks fans to write in if they would like the update, signed off as Fabio Lecca (cedlecca@kagi.com).
Requirements
The shareware Macintosh build runs on essentially any Mac, but a color 13-inch screen and QuickTime 2.0 or later (used for in-game music) are highly recommended. The package is distributed via Info-Mac as info-mac/game/crd/briscola-demo-15.hqx.
Notes
Macintosh Garden lists multiple full versions of Briscola (1.0 through 1.3) by the same author, but this Info-Mac demo package preserves the 1.5 demo lineage specifically; it is one of two Briscola demo entries in the archive.
