Hearts is an early Macintosh implementation of the classic trick-taking card game, distributed on Macintosh Garden as version 1.6 from Loki Engineering Inc. Dating to 1984, it targets the original black-and-white Mac and runs under System 1 through System 6 on 68k hardware, making it one of the earliest digital Hearts releases for the platform.
Gameplay
The program plays the standard four-hand Hearts variant against computer opponents: avoid taking hearts and the queen of spades, or shoot the moon by capturing them all. The interface is keyboard- and mouse-driven in classic single-window Mac fashion.
System requirements
The release runs on early 68k Macintoshes from System 1 through System 6.x. It is distributed both as a StuffIt archive and as a 512 KB disk image, suitable for booting on period hardware or in Mini vMac.
Provenance
The Macintosh Garden listing credits Loki Engineering Inc. and gives a 1984 release date, placing the title in the very first wave of consumer Mac software.
