Gallery is a classical solitaire card game for the Macintosh, written by Swiss geographer Adrian Herzog and posted to the Info-Mac archive in April 1993. Version 3.0 introduces extended computer-aided-playing options, balloon help, a preference file, and minor bug fixes over earlier releases.
Solitaire with statistics
Gallery records every score and lets players export results to a text file for further analysis. To benchmark human play, it can also compare your result against a no-strategy baseline that simply makes legal moves in random order, which still wins most hands.
Computer-aided playing
An optional CAP system offers two levels of help. Level 1 marks movable cards on the tableau; Level 2 plays evident, unproblematic moves automatically so the player can focus on judgement calls rather than hunting for legal options.
Balloon help and preferences
Version 3.0 adds System 7-era balloon help and a persistent preference file, letting the program remember CAP and statistics settings between sessions.
Free, with a postcard request
Herzog released Gallery as free software, asking only that satisfied players send a postcard to his children, in keeping with the postcardware tradition common on Info-Mac at the time.
