GolfMeister is a long-running Mac shareware utility from Barking Spider Software and Persimmon Software that tracks personal golf scores and computes statistics from them. First released in 1995, it received over a decade of incremental updates, with versions on Macintosh Garden ranging from 1.1 (about 135 KB) up through 3.5.2 (about 924 KB) for PowerPC Carbon and Mac OS X.
What it does
Rather than simulating golf, GolfMeister is a digital scorecard and stats journal. Players log scores per hole and per round, and the application calculates handicap-style statistics, trends, and per-course performance information.
Long shareware lifespan
Macintosh Garden lists ten distinct versions of GolfMeister, an unusually deep release history for an indie Mac shareware utility. The progression from a small System 7 binary to a Carbon build illustrates a developer carrying a single tool across nearly the entire classic-to-OS-X transition.
Compatibility and emulation
Older versions target System 7.0 through Mac OS 9 and are compatible with SheepShaver, Basilisk II, and Mini vMac II for retro use. Later 3.x releases run natively on early Mac OS X under Carbon.
