Simple Tetris 1.0 Beta is a Macintosh remake of the classic falling-block puzzle game by Japanese developer Kentaro Tanida. As the name suggests, it is a deliberately straightforward take on Tetris: the author's stated goal is to deliver the great classical game "as it was," without elaborations on top of the original formula.
Classic Tetris gameplay
Pieces composed of four blocks drop from the top of the well, and the player rotates and slides them to build complete horizontal lines. The author describes the controls in the simplest terms - "flip and move dropping sets of four pieces to struct horizontal lines" - and leaves the rest to the familiar genre conventions.
Beta release
The build is explicitly labelled a beta. It is offered as a work in progress rather than a finalised 1.0 product, and players are pointed at the author's home page for updates.
System requirements
The release notes call for System 7.0 or later, any Macintosh (the author appends a hopeful "I hope"), and roughly 400 KB of free memory. The game is tuned to look best on a monitor set to 256 colors.
