David's Backgammon is a shareware implementation of the classic dice-and-checkers race game for the Classic Mac OS, authored by David Byrum and distributed through bestbackgammon.com. The unregistered build runs as a feature-limited demo, allowing players to complete roughly half of any given game before prompting for a license.
Gameplay
Standard backgammon rules with a top-down board view, on-screen dice, and a clean Mac-native interface aimed at quick, low-friction matches against the computer.
Versions
The program evolved across several releases, beginning with 68k-only builds (around v1.3.7) and moving to fat binaries supporting both 68k and PowerPC Macs by v4.6.
System Requirements
Runs under System 7.0 through Mac OS 9; suitable for both 68k Macintoshes and PowerPC machines depending on the build.
Shareware Model
Distributed as nagware: fully playable for evaluation, with the full match length and additional features unlocked by registering with the author.
