Anacrostics 1.21, by M. Jordan, is a Macintosh shareware tool for building anacrostic (acrostic) puzzles. Anacrostics are crossword-like puzzles in which the solver recovers a quotation: letters answered in a list of clues are transferred into a numbered grid that, read left to right, spells out the hidden quote.
What it does
Rather than shipping a fixed set of puzzles, Anacrostics is a puzzle-maker. It helps an author take a chosen quotation, generate the clue letter-grid, and lay out a printable or playable puzzle.
For solvers and setters
The author argues that constructing these puzzles is at least as addictive as solving them, and the included Help screen walks new users through both the format and the construction workflow.
Platform fit
The program runs as a small native classic Mac application, distributed via Info-Mac as a BinHex-encoded download, and is aimed at hobbyist puzzle constructors working on the Mac.
This file is part of the MacTrove archive. See the Thank You page for the upstream mirrors we rely on. It is BinHex encoded — use The Unarchiver to decode it.
