nh30j is a Japanese-language port of NetHack 3.0 for the Classic Mac OS, bringing the landmark 1989 roguelike to Japanese-localized Macs of the early 1990s. It keeps the 3.0 ruleset intact while translating the menus, prompts, and in-game text into Japanese.
NetHack 3.0
The 3.0 release was a turning point for the series, introducing player classes, the Gnomish Mines branch, and many of the monsters, items, and dungeon features that define modern NetHack.
Japanese Localization
Game text is translated to Japanese, with character display handled through the Japanese Mac OS environment (KanjiTalk / Japanese System) so that kanji and kana render correctly alongside the ASCII map.
Gameplay
A turn-based, single-player dungeon crawl with permadeath and procedurally generated levels: descend, gather equipment, fight or evade monsters, retrieve the Amulet of Yendor, and ascend.
Compatibility
Targets 68k Macintoshes running a Japanese-localized release of System 7.
