A Very Bonzo Christmas is a holiday-themed level set for Monkey Shines, the colorful Mac platformer that shipped a built-in level editor and quickly attracted a cottage industry of fan-made worlds. The pack swaps in seasonal graphics and music for a Christmas-flavored run through Bonzo's monkey-bar puzzles.
About Monkey Shines
Monkey Shines was created by Fadden Software (Andy McFadden) and Steven Levy in the early 1990s as a tribute to the BBC Acorn classic Monkey Puzzle. Its tile-based engine and friendly editor made third-party scenarios trivial to build, and dozens were distributed as shareware throughout the decade.
How add-on worlds work
Bonzo levels load into the base Monkey Shines application, which provides physics, scoring, and sprite rendering. Christmas-themed packs typically retheme bananas, enemies, and bonus rooms with seasonal art while leaving puzzle structure intact.
Distribution
Holiday Monkey Shines packs circulated through Info-Mac, AOL software libraries, and personal sites; today they survive through the Macintosh Garden archive of the wider Monkey Shines ecosystem.
