Shanghai II Football Tiles is a custom 8-bit color tile set by Ken Wigle for Activision's Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye on the Macintosh. It swaps the game's traditional mahjong faces for football-themed artwork drawn in SuperPaint, letting fans of the sport play the familiar tile-matching solitaire with a different look.
A custom face for Shanghai II
Shanghai II ships with several built-in tile sets, but it also accepts user-made replacements. Wigle's set drops into that slot and changes only the visual face of the tiles; the underlying matching rules and layouts of Shanghai II are unchanged.
Football artwork in 8-bit color
The tiles were drawn in SuperPaint as 8-bit color graphics, matching the color depth Shanghai II expects from custom faces. The football theme replaces the usual bamboo, characters, and seasons with sport-related imagery.
A corrected repost
This release is explicitly a repost: Wigle notes that the first set he uploaded to Info-Mac was bad, and this version was packaged to install and display correctly with Shanghai II.
Requires Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye
The set is an add-on rather than a standalone game. Players need a working copy of Activision's Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye for the Macintosh to use the tiles; without the host application the file is just a graphics resource.
Free to use and share
The accompanying note simply invites users to enjoy the set, with no shareware fee mentioned, in keeping with the era's tradition of community-made tile and skin packs for Activision's Shanghai series.
