The Marathon Physics Editor is a modding utility for Bungie's Marathon trilogy, allowing authors to edit the physics models that govern weapons, projectiles, monsters, and player movement. By rewriting the physics file shipped with a scenario, modders can retune everything from rocket velocity to monster aggression.
What it edits
Marathon stores tunable values for monsters, projectiles, effects, weapons, and player constants in a physics file separate from the map and shapes data. The editor exposes those numeric tables in a friendlier interface than a hex editor.
Use in the Marathon mod scene
Custom physics models were a staple of Marathon scenarios and net-play variants, producing everything from low-gravity arenas to total conversions where the BOB civilians become the deadliest threat on the level.
Companion to Forge and Anvil
The editor sits alongside Bungie's official Forge (map editor) and Anvil (shapes/sounds editor), filling out the toolset needed to build a complete Marathon scenario.
Preservation status
Preserved as part of the Marathon modding heritage that fed into the open-source Aleph One engine and the long tail of community scenarios.
