Bin Ladenstein is a fan-made post-9/11 scenario for the Macintosh release of Wolfenstein 3D, recasting the original World War II shooter around the manhunt for Osama bin Laden. It is a total-conversion data set that loads on top of an existing Wolfenstein 3D install rather than a standalone game.
Scenario
The mod replaces the Nazi-themed enemies, sprites, and level layouts with a cave-and-compound setting evoking the Tora Bora hunt, swapping the boss roster for a bin Laden stand-in as the final encounter.
Historical Context
Released in the wave of amateur Wolfenstein 3D mods produced shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks, when the Mac modding community was repurposing the engine for topical scenarios.
Gameplay
Standard Wolfenstein 3D mechanics: first-person, grid-based corridor shooting with hitscan weapons, secret walls, and key-coloured doors across a sequence of levels.
Requirements
Needs a working installation of Wolfenstein 3D for Mac OS to host the replacement assets; runs in the same Classic Mac OS environment as the base game.
