Fawn is a 1995 HyperCard role-playing game by Greg Gillis, released through Armadillo Games as the studio's first RPG. The player takes on the role of Lance, a member of a special agency on the distant planet of Fawn, joined by Vincent and Sarah on a mission to right wrongs, solve puzzles, and unravel a strange sequence of events that could put the planet in grave peril.
Story setup
The framing is straight 16-bit-era console RPG transplanted into HyperCard: a small adventuring party, a planet under quiet threat, and a chain of events the agency only half understands until the puzzles start lining up.
HyperCard delivery
This entry is the HyperCard sibling of the standalone Fawn release. It runs on top of HyperCard or HyperCard Player 2.3 or later, which let Gillis ship card-based scenes, scripted encounters, and stack navigation without writing a custom engine.
System needs
Fawn (HC) targets System 7.0 through Mac OS 9 on either 68k or PowerPC hardware, with 256-color mode recommended on System 7.6.1. That spread mirrored the home Macs HyperCard authors were writing for in the mid-1990s, before the platform's slow fade.
Series note
Gillis later followed up with Fawn II, billed by Armadillo as the thrilling sequel and adding dramatic full-color animated battles -- the original Fawn stack here is the entry point to that small two-game arc.
