Blown Eye Preview is an early sneak peek at a PowerPC-only shoot-em-up in development by R. Bauer (rebauer@studi.unizh.ch) and distributed through the Info-Mac archive. Pitched as a Mac take on classic side-scrollers like R-Type and Nemesis, the preview shipped a single playable level from the planned classic world.
R-Type Style Shoot-em-up
The author explicitly cites R-Type and Nemesis as the inspiration, putting Blown Eye in the lineage of horizontal-scrolling space shooters with escalating waves of enemies and end-of-level bosses. The preview level is described as part of the game's classic world.
Planned Worlds and Bosses
The full game was planned to include four to six themed worlds (classic, water, power, organic, and others), each with three levels capped by one or more big bad bosses. Only the classic-world preview level was released for download.
System Requirements
Blown Eye requires a Power Macintosh, at least 4 MB of RAM, a display of 640 by 480 pixels or larger, and 256 colors. The preview was distributed as arc/blown-eye-preview-ppc.hqx in the Info-Mac archive.
Status
At the time of upload the full game was unfinished and not available anywhere; players were directed to wait for a forthcoming demo version. The preview survives in the Info-Mac mirror as a snapshot of an in-progress mid-1990s Mac shoot-em-up.
