Shadow Wraith Demo is the playable preview of ShadowWraith, a 1995 top-down scrolling shooter developed by Terminal Sunset and published by StarPlay Productions for the Macintosh. The full game puts you in the cockpit of a futuristic cyber-ship navigating intricate cyberspace mazes while evading anti-virus assassins.
Cyberspace top-down shooter
ShadowWraith plays as an action-packed top-down shooter set inside a stylised cyberspace. The pilot is an AI representation of Alex Kendall, out for revenge after his family and his mortal self were assassinated, and the demo gives players a slice of that revenge mission.
Fourteen weapon systems
The pilot has access to fourteen distinct weapon systems and must seek out secret gates and password keys to progress through the maze. Combat sits on top of a detailed physics model that gives the cyber-ship momentum, recoil, and inertia rather than arcade-tight controls.
Photorealistic rendered world
The retail release advertises over twenty pre-rendered, photorealistic levels and a full stereo soundtrack of progressive music (25 MOD-format tracks in total). The demo showcases this art and audio direction at lower commitment than the CD-ROM full game.
Heritage and sequel
ShadowWraith was followed in 1996 by a sequel, Souls in the System, which added multiplayer to the formula. Both games remained cult classics in the mid-nineties Mac shareware scene and are commonly cited together by Macintosh Garden contributors.
