Mille Bornes is a 1992 Mac adaptation of the Parker Brothers French card game, programmed by Greg Abbas and published by Abbai Technologies. Players race to one thousand miles by playing distance cards, refueling, and making repairs while trying to slow opponents with hazard and speed-limit cards.
The card-game race
The rules mirror the tabletop original: lay mileage cards to advance, manage fuel and tire troubles, and hit rivals with hazards and speed limits to keep them off the road.
Mac-native presentation
The game uses the standard Mac interface and ships with help and about screens that walk through play and credits.
System requirements
Mille Bornes targets 68k Macs running System 7 (required for sound) on a 13-inch (640x400) or larger 8-bit color display; it tops out at 256 colors.
Caveats and quirks
Macintosh Garden documents memory leaks during long sessions that can be worked around by raising the application's memory partition.
