Spades Room (filename 'spades-room.hqx', actual product name 'Masiak's Castle') is a downloadable 'room' plug-in for Freeverse Software's Spades Deluxe v1.5. It re-themes the card-table environment as a 3D-rendered Transylvanian-via-Polish parlor; the host game (Spades Deluxe) is required for it to do anything.
Add-on, not a standalone game
Spades Room does not contain a Spades engine of its own. It is a content pack that drops a new visual 'room' into Freeverse's existing Spades Deluxe v1.5 client, swapping out the default parlor for a spectacular 3D-rendered castle setting. Without Spades Deluxe installed, there is nothing to launch.
The Masiak's Castle frame
The pack ships with a tongue-in-cheek setup: 'By the third attempt on your life, you've decided that the local villagers in Transylvania are not your friends. Grabbing your bag you catch the night train north to Poland... a Spades game is just getting underway and they need a fourth.' That mood (gothic dread softened by card-table small talk) is the room's whole personality.
How Spades Deluxe plays
The host game, Spades Deluxe, is Freeverse's 4-player partnership Spades implementation with bidding, tricks, nil bids, and an 'advanced artificial intelligence engine' driving the three computer opponents. Spades Room adds visual polish (3D rendered backgrounds, table dressing) without changing the rules.
Freeverse 'rooms' system
Freeverse used the same plug-in approach across several of their card games in the late 1990s, letting users download themed rooms separately from the main client. It kept the base download small and gave players a steady drip of free or low-cost cosmetic refreshes for games they already owned.
Practical notes
To use this archive entry you need a working install of Freeverse's Spades Deluxe (v1.5 era). Drop the room file into the appropriate Spades Deluxe folder and select Masiak's Castle from the room picker inside the game. The plug-in is purely cosmetic; rules, AI, and scoring all live in the host application.
