BabyLabyrinth 1.0.5+ is a gentle freeware black-and-white maze game for very young children, written by Italian developer Simone Bettini. There are no scores, no enemies, and no violence - just a small chosen character wandering a labyrinth, collecting cakes and toys, and bumping into walls with funny sound effects.
How a session plays
The child picks a character, chooses a maze size, and then steers the little figure through the labyrinth looking for the exit. Along the way they pick up small treats - cakes, toys, and other harmless trinkets - and hear comic bonk sounds when the character runs into a wall. There is no fail state and no timer, so a toddler can poke around for as long as they like.
The "Plus" edition
The 1.0.5+ release reposts Bettini's original BabyLabyrinth bundled with a stack of extra animations contributed over the years by other Mac users. The author cites this as a thank-you to the community that kept sending him new characters and animations long after the original release, and an excuse to share them with a new generation of kids.
System requirements
BabyLabyrinth runs on essentially any Mac, from a Mac Classic on up. It needs System 6.0.4 or newer and is reported to still work fine under System 7.5.5 and on PowerPC machines. The game is freeware and is preserved on Macintosh Garden, which catalogues it as a top-down arcade game.
