Genetic Wars is a freeware Macintosh strategy game of battles and breeding by koops at e-brains.com. Players choose capable soldiers, then breed and mutate them across successive generations to field stronger fighters, applying principles of artificial life to the war-game format.
The Core Loop
Combat decides which units survive to reproduce, and selective breeding plus controlled mutation drives each new generation toward better performance. Winning the longer campaign means evolving an army the opposition cannot match, rather than simply out-producing them.
Artificial Life Premise
The game leans on artificial life ideas - inheritance, variation, selection - to give the strategy layer a different feel from conventional unit-roster wargames. Outcomes shift as the genome of your standing army drifts from match to match.
Distribution
The author released Genetic Wars as a free download. The original project information lived at www.e-brains.com, with submissions handled by koops directly.
