Bubbles

Bubbles is a game of logic for the classic Mac, distributed in this Japanese localization (1.3.1J) by ChrisLi. Each turn brings five new colored balls onto the board, and the player must arrange matching balls into lines of five or more to clear them and earn a free turn.

Move and match

On each turn the player can move one ball to any free position on the board, with the restriction that a ball cannot jump over another. Completing a line of five or more matching balls in any direction clears those balls and grants a bonus turn before new balls drop in.

Eight ball types, random placement

Five balls of eight different kinds appear at random positions every turn. The pressure to clear lines before the board fills up gives even simple positions a planning challenge, since careless moves leave you boxed in by the next wave.

Scoring

The score table in the tool window reflects your current bonus. Points are calculated by a complex rule that factors in the number of turns taken, the number of extra balls on the board, and how efficiently lines are cleared, rewarding tight play over brute force.

Requirements

This Japanese release runs on Mac OS 7.6.1 or higher with a PowerPC processor and Color QuickDraw. The English release of Bubbles shares the same engine and ruleset.
